At Scilly Spirit Distillery, we pride ourselves on our artisanal craftsmanship, drawing inspiration from the rich coastal heritage of the Isles of Scilly. Each bottle of our gin is meticulously crafted, capturing the beauty and essence of our surroundings. Our dedication to quality has earned us numerous international awards, making our spirits a true testament to excellence.
At the southwestern tip of the UK, on the enchanting St Mary’s island in the Isles of Scilly, husband and wife duo Arthur and Hilary Miller established the Scilly Spirit Distillery. Their journey began in the spring of 2017, culminating in the launch of their distillery in May 2019. Within weeks of releasing their first product, “Island Gin,” their distinctive bottle design was awarded “Best Design & Packaging in Spirits” at the Drinks Business Awards.
Recognition came swiftly. In June 2019, their Island Gin received the prestigious “Master” accolade in the Spirits Business Global Gin Masters Awards, placing them among only 14 gins out of 320 worldwide. A month later, they earned two medals from the International Wine & Spirits Competition and became finalists in the Packaging Awards. The San Francisco World Spirits Competition further honored their Island Gin with a Gold for bottle design and a Silver for the gin itself.
The Millers’ gin is inspired by a historical event from January 18, 1665, when a Spice Trade ship carrying peppercorns from Java wrecked off Bishop Rock. This peppercorn became a key botanical in their gin. The stunning beauty and rich maritime heritage of the Isles of Scilly inspired their bottle design, which features a tall neck reminiscent of the Bishop Lighthouse and a deep wooden stopper echoing the lighthouse’s helicopter landing pad.
Their bottle’s vibrant aqua green color captures the sea’s distinctive hue, and its decoration, rather than traditional labeling, reflects the purity, tranquility, and beauty of the archipelago. The clear view through the bottle showcases the vista of the Western Rocks as seen from St Mary’s island.
Every detail, including the tamper seal designed to resemble the oars of the Pilot Gig boats that rescued shipwreck survivors, pays homage to the island’s heritage.
Art and Hils continue to innovate, launching their “Atlantic Strength” Navy Strength gin in a striking azure blue bottle, and an Aged Rosé gin aged in a Port cask for unique flavor notes. Their dedication to their craft is evident in every small batch distillation, hand-bottling, and personal signing of each tamper seal.
For those seeking authentic, artisan gin with a story and a commitment to excellence, Scilly Spirit Distillery’s gins are unparalleled.
