The name “Mahi Mahi” is derived from a strong and vibrant fish found in the tropical and subtropical regions of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. The goal of our Gin label is to capture the same essence and qualities found in this remarkable species.
“Mahi Mahi” in Hawaiian means: “extra strong” and that translates perfectly in our 48% alcohol found in our Gin. The fish communicates by changing its vibrant colours, we use the same effect to distinguish our different Gins by giving each of them their own vibrant coloured logo. Giving our labels a unique look!
If you combine three Gin enthusiasts, all working in different companies and all responsible for quality and customer satisfaction, you can expect something special.
The idea of making our own Gin came on a sunny afternoon. It wasn’t planned, it just happened. Being ready for a career switch, we were asking ourselves what would really make us happy in life.
Was it another job with a new set of rules and deadlines? Or would it be something completely different? We needed several gin-tonics to come to the conclusion thata combination between our beloved drink ‘Gin’ and a company of our own would be the best way to bring a big smile upon our faces.
But coulld it be done? Was it possible to start a Gin distillery?
We agreed that if we started this distillery, it should be a Gin at the top of the market and only be produced in small batches. We would make the best Gin possible and only bring it to the market if we were satisfied with the Results.
We talked to our good friends Oliver and Karin. Oliver has been in alcohol production all his life and currently running a distillery for excellent whisky together with Karin. (“De Koperen Ster”, amazing whiskey, you should try it! ).
He said: you should do this and I will provide you with the necessary backk-up!’
This was the start of a very intense period of working on our Gins, ingredients, tasting, trying and comparing.
It took more than a year to create our three recipes: Original, Mango and Orange.
Our Mahi Mahi Gin is a ‘London Dry Gin’. This means that everything you taste, is coming from distillation. Nothing is added or infused after the process, except water to bring our Mahi Mahi Gin to the required 48% alcohol.
We strongly believe that you can only get absolute top quality if you stick to the two Simple rules: use the best ingredients money can buy and use a small copper still.
