The journey of Inspiro Tequila began not in the agave fields of Jalisco, but in the fast-paced corporate boardrooms of Chicago. Founder Mara Smith, a former attorney and corporate strategist, found herself searching for a spirit that complemented her active, gluten-free lifestyle without compromising on quality or transparency. After a decade-long hiatus from the corporate world to raise her three children, a period she calls being the “CEO of the home”, Smith returned to her entrepreneurial roots with a singular mission: to redefine what it means to enjoy tequila.
What she discovered in her research was a spirits industry that often overlooked female consumers and relied on undisclosed additives to achieve “smoothness.” Driven by intellectual curiosity and a perfectionist’s eye, Smith refused to accept the status quo. She partnered with Ana María Romero Mena, one of the few female Maestra Tequileras in Mexico, to develop a proprietary production process at Tequilera Tap (NOM 1614).
Their philosophy is simple: let the agave speak for itself. Inspiro Tequila is crafted from mature 100% Blue Weber Agave, harvested by hand and cooked in traditional autoclaves for 12 hours to release the plant’s natural sugars without the use of industrial diffusers. Distilled twice in stainless pot stills with copper coils, the resulting spirit is meticulously rested, never rushed, to achieve its signature silky mouthfeel. From the barrel-rested Luna Blanco to the first-of-its-kind Rosa Reposado aged in French rosé wine barrels, every expression reflects a commitment to purity.
Today, Inspiro is more than a premium tequila; it is a B Corp Certified social impact company. Through the Purple Bicycle Project, the brand honors its founder’s perseverance by supporting and mentoring other female entrepreneurs. Inspiro invites you to connect with friends and family over a spirit that is as clean as it is compelling, tequila made for the moments that truly matter.
