The story goes that in 1658, the German physician and scientist Franciscus Sylvius de la Boe developed a drink called "Aqua Juniperi" based on juniper berries to treat stomach problems, gallstones, gout and other ailments of the time. This extraordinary 17th century invention has become one of the most popular alcoholic beverages among cocktail lovers.

Tungurahua volcano where our water is from

Tungurahua, one of Ecuador's most active volcanoes, is made up of three volcanic edifices. It's located on the Eastern Cordillera of the Ecuadorian Andes. This 5023m high active volcano is notable for its extreme relief (3200 m), steep sides, and small summit glacier.

It is the eastern part of Ecuador, the wildest area of the country, an immense region and one of the least altered on the planet. It occupies more than a third of Ecuador's territory. 50% of the country's mammals and 5% of the Earth's plant species live in the interior of the jungle.

The perfect combination of scents and flavors, coming from the essential oils of 9 botanicals, hide before the palate its 45% alcoholic content.

The correct blend and qualities of the botanicals used, make Franz a Gin in which a great variety of ingredients can be used in the elaboration of cocktails, without losing the fineness of its qualities.

During the bottling process, the heads and tails are eliminated, resulting in a loss of around 20% of the product, but guaranteeing its nobility and avoiding alcoholic shock or subsequent discomfort for its consumers.

4. The number 15 is the number of the distillery we use. The lion is for strength and character it conveys. The dates in Roman numerals are Sylvius Franciscus de la Böe’s first experiment and the year of creation of our gin.
