ABOUT US

Combining his passion for great cooking and artisan cocktail making plus his love of beer, wine and spirits, Mathew Smallbane created Fatman and Friends.

While designing the drinks menu for his pop-up restaurant, Tasmanian-born Mathew, came up with the idea of creating his own version of his favourite drink, the Negroni.

Mathew spent time developing and creating the perfect blend: a good dry gin with notes of juniper and spice, the citrus aromas of sweet vermouth and the herbaceous floral tang of Italian bitters – with a subtle blend of aromatics.

Fatman’s Espresso Martini

“Make me a drink that will wake me up then f$%k me up”. Legend has it this was the instruction given by a supermodel to Espresso Martini inventor and barman Dick Bradsell of The Soho Brasserie in 1983. Fatman’s Espresso Martini has taken Dick’s original and dialled down the 80’s shoulder pads for the modern palette. We start with a single origin coffee bean from the small Columbian town of Timana. Not only does it give a healthy jolt of caffeine it delivers bags of flavour – caramel, molasses and citrus. Then it’s blended with one of the finest premium vodkas  and a rich coffee liqueur to satisfy the most demanding diva.

Fatman’s Aged Negroni

At the heart of Fatman’s Aged Negroni you’ll find Count Negroni’s original recipe: a good dry gin with notes of juniper and spice, the citrus aromas of a sweet vermouth, and the herbaceous floral tang of Italian bitters. We add a blend of aromatics and age it in barrels to bring this classic aperitif up to date for the modern palate.

Fatman’s Old Fashioned

The Old Fashioned was invented in 1880 to honour James E Pepper, a celebrated bourbon distiller, who popularised his creation at the Waldorf Astoria with his drinking buddies John D Rockefeller, Theodore Roosevelt and Charles Tiffany. Fatman adds new levels of sofistication to this classic by taking a strong jawed bourbon, taming it with maple syrup instead of traditional sugar, and adding a blend of botanicals and pecan bitters which deliver deep herbaceaous notes and a satisfying tongue smacking tang of citrus. We then age it for eight weeks making Fatman’s Old Fashioned anything but!
