Who is Edwards 1902?

Founded by a team with more than a century of potato growing heritage, Elsham Wold Distillery is located in the heart of the countryside on the border of Lincolnshire and Yorkshire; just a few miles from where the base ingredient for the spirit – the King Edward potato – was first cultivated in 1902.

Grown by four generations of our founders’ families and known for its superior eating qualities, the King Edward Potato was given royal assent by King Edward VII in the year of his coronation.

Edwards 1902 is a premium, English potato vodka made from King Edward potatoes grown across Lincolnshire and Yorkshire farms. Uniquely creamy, Edwards 1902 is perfect sipped on the rocks or in a classic martini. ABV – 40%

Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur

The creation of a local collaboration, this balanced blend of single-origin, cold brewed Guatemalan coffee with Edwards 1902 English Potato Vodka delivers a deliciously rich coffee liqueur. Perfect to enjoy alone, or as part of a luxurious espresso martini. ABV – 20%. 50cl

We are proud to have received a Double Gold Best in Class award for this liqueur at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits
Competition.

Why Edwards?

“We truly believe that locallyproduced spirits from natural, raw ingredients can transcend the popular craft market. With such a fantastic local ingredient right on our doorstep, and one renowned for its eating qualities, it made perfect sense to create a vodka purely from the King Edward. We perfected our recipe with a double rectification, resulting in a deliciously smooth, unique-tasting potato vodka unlike anything we had sampled before.”

1. Our vodka has been 2 years in the making, with our first batch released in April 2020 – this was also our award winning batch.

2. Unlike many other producers, we only use one variety of potato, creating a unique flavour profile.

3. We make 100% of our alcohol from raw ingredients – no bulk buying base spirits like many other distilleries.

4. We stop check at every stage, to ensure that every beautiful bottle is of the highest quality.

5. No need to filter – since we double-rectify each batch to give the smoothest possible sip.

Richard Arundel

Richard operates a potato farming business just a few miles from Elsham Wold Distillery. His family has been farming potatoes in Lincolnshire for more than 100 years and while he is committed to honouring his family’s farming legacy, he is excited to begin a new adventure which perfectly captures the combination of heritage and taste for the finer things in life.

Matthew Hamilton

The son of a potato business owner, and armed with a masters degree in molecular microbiology. Matthew’s interest in plant science led him to working in horticultural pathology, before becoming a founder of the Elsham Wold Distillery. Known as ‘Spud’ to his family, Matthew has spent hours creating our perfectly smooth blend – we simply couldn’t do it without him.

Emma Hamilton

Established in the London food and drinks industry, Emma has traded tube journeys for wellington boots on route from soil to spirit. Returning to her roots with new expertise, combined with inherited knowledge of potato farming, Emma has brought the brand to life and is responsable for its visibility in bars and restaurants.

Ben Mordue

Born and raised in Yorkshire, Ben followed in his father’s footsteps with a farmig career, starting his own journey with a local farm at the tender age of 14. Ben has worked with Richard for over 20 years and is a potato farming expert in his own right. He has been pursuing the idea of producing a premium, local potato vodka since 2013.

Jo Mordue

With husband Ben, Jo is fulfilling a 7-year dream of creating premium potato vodka. Jo is an animal-lover who has navigated through careers in equine, animal feed and food production. As a passionate marketer of Edwards 1902, Jo is proudly on first-name terms with supermarket staff having persistently trialled sample bottles on the shelves, in the quest for pefection.

We have embarked on a journey from Soil to Spirit.

This process also allows us to minimise waste – we use even the wonky potatoes to make our vodka.


We are mindful about sustainability and playing our part – the site utilises solar panels to offset the carbon footprint of our production, and any waste material is used locally to produce green energy or to
fertilise the land.
