After returning from a fabulous holiday in the Balearic Islands it was a real pleasure to receive a few fabulous bottles of gin from the Murray and Yeatman distillery. I had been reliably informed prior to tasting that Murray and Yeatman unite fermentation and distilling techniques from a long lost distilling book from the 17th century (so far so Harry Potter!), so it was with great excitement that I poured my first classic M&Y over ice . The taste of their classic gin is smooth and refreshing with hints of citrus, coriander and saffron. The gin is vapour infused allowing the botanicals to release their oils into the stream, the botanicals and liquid never touch, it’s what makes it so smooth. Anyway, once I settled in for the evening I thought it was time to test the 57% Navy strength which comes armed with a secret ingredient and carefully selected botanicals. It has a slight hint of pepper and caramel but it is frankly speaking a revelation of a gin. It is simply wonderful, it is head and shoulders above some of the gins I have tasted recently and without question this is now a regular in my drinks cabinet. Both gins are excellent but the Navy strength takes your breath away , I implore you to try it and make it your Christmas Number #1 English Gin.
